Hilfe fuer benachteilige Kinder und Heranwachsende in Rumanenien e.V. (HiKHeR) (“Help for handicapped children and young people in Romania”) is a German non-profit association created to support the work of Children in Distress Romania. Children in Distress Romania, founded in 1990, cares for abandoned and other children with severe mental and physical illnesses as well as potentially terminal illnesses, such as HIV/AIDS. Children in Distress (CiD) provides medical, therapeutic, and socio-educational care to alleviate the children’s suffering and enable them to live, as far as possible, a dignified life. CiD also aids children from poor backgrounds, through after school and weekend projects and activities and scholarships which hopefully influence these children to stay in school rather than drop out to work or beg.
HiKHeR was founded in 2022 to raise funds for CiD and to support its work in other ways. HiKHeR was created by several people in Germany who came to know the work of CiD through their visits to CiD beginning in 2014. These individuals were so impressed with CiD’s work that they have continued to visit CiD and support CiD as individuals. In 2022, these individuals came together to create HiKHeR so as to better assist CiD in its work. HiKHeR and CiD work closely to further CiD’s care for marginalized children in Romania. It is a meaningful and productive partnership.
HiKHeR has sponsored several fundraising activities for CiD since 2022.Any Individual or corporate entity is welcome to join HiKHer. To join the association, or if you have questions, please contact Frauke Ackermann, HiKHeR’s president, at vorstand@hilfe-fuer-kinder-in-rumaenien.de.
